Bleasdale you Beauty… Hello Halliday Honours!

Whether you’re drinking a Bleasdale wine that is $12 or $70, whether it is a Sparkling Shiraz, a single vineyard Malbec or the Frank Potts Cabernet Blend, we have crafted all our wines to tell you their own unique story in the glass, speaking of its history, its diversity and its individuality. This has been our goal since the beginning - from 1850 to 2019.

With 169 years of Bleasdale wines and more than 48 trophies since 2013, we’re always striving to do better and produce superior wines that represent who we are and what we stand for. A nation-wide judgement, setting the standard of Australian wines occurs once a year by one of the most esteemed figures in the wine industry – James Halliday.

So many in the industry await these awards, as it is one of the most widely recognised accolades. Our very own Paul Hotker was named James Halliday's Winemaker of the Year for 2018 and we’ve had numerous wines included in the James Halliday Wine Companion over the years.

We are proud that this year we have set our own standards high with 16 of our wines included in the guide. This includes four Golds, ten Silvers and two Bronze - we couldn’t be happier with the result and James Halliday’s overall review of Bleasdale. Read on to hear what he had to say.

James Halliday’s Review:

“This is one of the most historic wineries in Australia, in 2015 celebrating 165 years of continuous winemaking by the direct descendants of the founding Potts family. Not so long before the start of the 21st century, its vineyards were flooded every winter by diversion of the Bremer River, which provided moisture throughout the dry, cool, growing season. In the new millennium, every drop of water is counted. The vineyards have been significantly upgraded and refocused, with shiraz accounting for 45% of plantings, supported by seven other proven varieties. Bleasdale has completely revamped its labels and packaging, and has headed to the Adelaide Hills for sauvignon blanc, pinot gris and chardonnay under the direction of gifted winemaker (and viticulturist) Paul Hotker.”
