Bleasdale Wins Prestigious Max Schubert Trophy

Bleasdale’s 2016 Generations Shiraz was today awarded the coveted Max Schubert Trophy for Most Outstanding Red Wine in Show at the 2018 Royal Adelaide Wine Show.

The 2016 Generations Shiraz had earlier been awarded the trophy for Best Shiraz in Show before going on to win the major prize of the event.

A huge achievement in and of itself, the Max Schubert and Shiraz trophies add to an already enormously successful past two months for Bleasdale, having now picked up seven trophies and a plethora of gold medals across the four capital city wine shows held since the beginning of August.

Of the aforementioned wine shows, Bleasdale wines have now taken out the trophy for Best Red Wine of Show at three of these events – and with three different wines!

The 2016 Wellington Road Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon kicked things off at the Sydney Royal Wine Show, before being joined by the 2017 Frank Potts in Perth a few weeks later, and now the 2016 Generations Shiraz here in Adelaide.

Our winemakers Paul Hotker and Matt Laube attended the event are were understandably very excited by the announcement.

“You work hard and you get rewarded eventually I guess,” Paul said of our recent success.

“It’s pretty rare to get such a spread of awards for such a diverse group of wines – they’re all red but that’s about the only thing they’ve got in common!”

Unfortunately all three of these Best Red of Show wines are yet-to-be released. The Max Schubert-winning 2016 Generations Shiraz is due for release towards the end of this year, similarly the 2016 Wellington Road Shiraz Cabernet. The 2017 Frank Potts Cabernet Blend is still a few years away – but it’ll be worth the wait!

Overall we’re a little stunned, and very humbled, and want to thank everyone who helps to make Bleasdale wines what they are; from our growers through to our cellar hands, bottling staff and of course our champion winemakers!

We think this is a perfect excuse to have a glass Bleasdale wine this weekend to celebrate. Cheers!
